Nativity Summer Program
Nativity Prep’s Summer Academic and Leadership Program deepens and expands our students’ vision of themselves and the world by challenging them academically, physically, spiritually and socially to maximize their success at Nativity Prep and prepare them for future success in high school and college.
The program aims to:
-
Develop leadership and teamwork skills.
-
Provide rising 6th and 7th graders with unique offsite overnight camp experience.
-
Improve the reading, writing, and math skills of all our students as well as expose them to enhanced learning experiences across all disciplines.
-
Provide Nativity Prep students with a safe, diverse, and educational summer experience.
-
Reinforce the values of selflessness, integrity, discipline, and “Nativity Spirit.”
The three week program for current students will run from July 19th thru August 8th and is required of all students. Nativity Prep teachers, interns, volunteers and other members of the school community staff the program. While the majority of the program will provide a single gender experience, the off-site camp will bring the whole school together at one site.
The overall purpose of this experience is: to provide academic support during the summer months, to encourage the students to engage in cultural and intellectual enrichment, to provide opportunities for athletic skill development and physical conditioning, and to have an away experience which includes development of leadership skills, personal values and team-building.
Camp Program:
The two week academic support and cultural and intellectual enrichment program will be held from July 19th thru July 30th on the campus of McQuaid Jesuit. During these two weeks, students would have a morning academic program consisting primarily of ELA (writing, grammar and reading) and mathematics with the boys and girls in separate classrooms. The afternoon session would consist of specialized enrichment courses such as art, music, computer and science. There would be at least one service opportunity scheduled per week to engage the students in the community. The day camp will run from Monday – Friday from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm with breakfast and lunch provided for the students.
The eight day away camp experience will be held from August 2nd thru August 8th at a recognized camp facility in upstate Western New York. The boys and girls will utilize the same facility. This experience will primarily be focused on helping the students gain a sense of self and development of leadership skills within and among the students. A strong focus on team-building and character development will also be emphasized. The camp will run from Monday morning with departure the following Sunday afternoon with a family picnic closing out the experience.
The Summer Academic and Leadership Program has been designed to keep our students’ education at the forefront of all they do. Through this program our students engage in activities that sharpen their minds in an environment that is nurturing and positive.
